About The Bayeux Tapestry
The Bayeux Tapestry is one of the most extraordinary objects to survive the medieval world — a 70-metre embroidered frieze, nearly a thousand years old, that tells the story of the Norman Conquest of England in 1066: the disputed oath, the blazing comet, the Channel crossing and the Battle of Hastings itself, stitched in coloured wool on linen. For the first time in almost 950 years it leaves Normandy and crosses the Channel, in a landmark UK–France loan, hanging in the British Museum's Sainsbury Gallery from 10 September 2026 to 11 July 2027 alongside treasures of the Anglo-Saxon and Norman worlds. Tickets (£25–£33) went on sale on 1 July 2026 and the run is expected to sell out months ahead — so this is very much a book-early trip. Staying in Bloomsbury or the West End puts you a short walk from the doors, ready for an early slot before the crowds build.
