History

The Chargers were an AFL charter member in 1960, playing their debut season in Los Angeles before owner Barron Hilton moved the team to San Diego in 1961, where it stayed for 56 years. Hilton chose the name for the 'Charge!' bugle call he wanted played after scores. San Diego reached its only Super Bowl after the 1994 season, losing to San Francisco, and produced one of the most explosive offenses in NFL history in the mid-2000s under quarterback Drew Brees and later Philip Rivers, though the team never turned that era into a title. The Chargers returned to Los Angeles in 2017 and now share SoFi Stadium with the Rams.
