Hotels near the Statue of Liberty

The essential thing to understand about the Statue of Liberty is that it isn't reachable by simply walking up to it — Liberty Island sits out in New York Harbor, and every visitor gets there by ferry, most commonly from Battery Park at the southern tip of Manhattan, or from Liberty State Park on the New Jersey side. So "near the Statue of Liberty" really means near one of these two departure points, not near the statue itself, and that should shape where you book.

Basing yourself in Lower Manhattan, around Battery Park, puts you closest to the main ferry terminal and within easy reach of the Financial District, Wall Street and the 9/11 Memorial, making it a sensible base if you want to combine the statue with other downtown sights on foot. The New Jersey side, near Liberty State Park, tends to be a quieter, less atmospheric alternative but can work if you're arriving from that direction or want a calmer evening base away from Manhattan's bustle. Neither option is particularly central for the rest of New York's big draws — places like Central Park or the Empire State Building are a fair way uptown — so if the statue is just one stop on a broader itinerary, weigh convenience for that visit against how much cross-town travel you're prepared to do daily.
