Home ground: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford

Good to know: NFL game dates and kick-off times can move — flexible scheduling shifts games between Thursday, Sunday and Monday slots, especially from midseason. If your trip is built around the game, choose a free-cancellation rate so your booking can move with it.

History

The franchise began in 1960 as the New York Titans, an AFL charter member, before new ownership renamed the team the Jets in 1963, a nod to the jet age and the team's proximity to LaGuardia Airport. The Jets won Super Bowl III after the 1968 season behind quarterback Joe Namath, who famously guaranteed victory over the heavily favoured Baltimore Colts beforehand — a result widely credited with establishing the AFL as the NFL's equal ahead of their formal merger. New York has not returned to a Super Bowl since. The Jets have shared MetLife Stadium with the Giants since 2010, and Namath's guarantee remains one of the most quoted moments in NFL history.

Records & quirks

  • The Jets won Super Bowl III 16-7, Jim Turner kicking three field goals and Matt Snell scoring the lone TD.
  • Namath was named Super Bowl MVP despite throwing zero touchdown passes, the first player to do so.
  • New York currently holds the NFL's third-longest active championship-game appearance drought.
