Good to know: NFL game dates and kick-off times can move — flexible scheduling shifts games between Thursday, Sunday and Monday slots, especially from midseason. If your trip is built around the game, choose a free-cancellation rate so your booking can move with it.

History

Green Bay's franchise dates to 1919, named for the Indian Packing Company, a local meatpacking plant that sponsored the team's first equipment. The Packers are the smallest-market franchise in major American sport and the NFL's only fan-owned, publicly held team, with shares held by supporters rather than a single owner. Green Bay has won more official NFL championships than any other franchise, including the first two Super Bowls under coach Vince Lombardi, whose name is now on the championship trophy itself. A second golden era under Brett Favre gave way to a further Super Bowl win under Aaron Rodgers in the 2010 season. Historic Lambeau Field, in use since 1957, is the oldest continuously operating stadium in the NFL.

Records & quirks

  • The 1967 Ice Bowl, played at -13°F with a wind chill near -48°F, is the coldest game in NFL history.
  • Referees' whistles froze shut, and Bart Starr won it with a 1-yard sneak with 13 seconds left.
  • Green Bay beat Dallas 21-17; NFL Films later ranked it the third-greatest game ever played.
