Good to know: NFL game dates and kick-off times can move — flexible scheduling shifts games between Thursday, Sunday and Monday slots, especially from midseason. If your trip is built around the game, choose a free-cancellation rate so your booking can move with it.

History

Founded in 1925 as one of the NFL's earliest expansion teams, the Giants took their name from the New York Giants baseball club, hoping to borrow some of its popularity. The football Giants have won four Super Bowls, after the 1986, 1990, 2007 and 2011 seasons, the latter two both remarkable upsets over an otherwise-dominant Patriots team led by Tom Brady. Linebacker Lawrence Taylor, whose explosive pass-rushing in the 1980s changed how the position was played, remains the player most associated with the franchise's identity. The Giants have shared MetLife Stadium in New Jersey with the Jets since 2010, one of only two stadiums in the league split between two teams.

Records & quirks

  • Lawrence Taylor won Defensive Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in the same 1981 season.
  • Taylor's 132.5 career sacks and a career-high 20.5 in 1986 remain franchise benchmarks.
  • The 1986 Giants routed San Francisco 49-3 in the playoffs en route to their first title since 1956.
  • Phil Simms completed 88% of his passes in that year's Super Bowl, still a Super Bowl record.
