Good to know: NFL game dates and kick-off times can move — flexible scheduling shifts games between Thursday, Sunday and Monday slots, especially from midseason. If your trip is built around the game, choose a free-cancellation rate so your booking can move with it.

History

The franchise began as the Houston Oilers, a charter AFL member from 1960 that won the league's first two championships, before owner Bud Adams relocated the team to Tennessee in 1997 and renamed it the Titans in 1999, a nod to Nashville's classical-architecture nickname 'Athens of the South.' Tennessee reached its only Super Bowl after the 1999 season, losing to the Rams after being stopped agonisingly one yard short on the game's final play. The Titans are equally remembered for the 'Music City Miracle,' a trick-play kickoff return that won a 2000 playoff game against Buffalo in the closing seconds. Nissan Stadium sits on the banks of the Cumberland River in downtown Nashville.

Records & quirks

  • The Music City Miracle came January 8, 2000: Frank Wycheck lateraled to Kevin Dyson, who ran 75 yards to win it.
  • Buffalo had led 16-15 before that game-ending 22-16 kickoff-return touchdown.
  • In Super Bowl XXXIV, Dyson was tackled one yard short of the tying score as time expired, in a 23-16 loss.
