The Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix is the only night race on the Formula 1 calendar, a sprint-format weekend where the Marina Bay Street Circuit comes alive after dark with floodlights illuminating the city skyline, the Padang, and the glittering waterfront of the bay. The 2026 weekend, Friday 2 October to Sunday 4 October, is one of the most glamorous events in the sport — a race as much about the city as the cars.

Singapore's hotels are plentiful but the grand prix weekend competes hard across all categories; book as far ahead as possible. Marina Bay Sands and the Raffles district are the prestige options; Bugis, Chinatown and Little India are livelier and better value. Singapore's food scene, from hawker centres to Michelin-starred restaurants, makes the whole trip exceptional.

The Singapore Grand Prix arrived in 2008 as something Formula 1 had never staged before: a full night race, run under banks of floodlights on public roads around Marina Bay. Fernando Alonso won that first edition for Renault, though the weekend would later become notorious for the 'Crashgate' scandal that unravelled a year on.

Since then the race has grown into one of the sport's glamour occasions, the cars threading between barriers past the Padang, the Singapore Flyer and the glittering waterfront while the city skyline glows behind them. The Marina Bay Street Circuit is a relentless, bumpy lap with little room for error, and the tropical heat and humidity make it one of the most physically punishing races of the year, routinely running close to the two-hour limit.

Sebastian Vettel is its most successful driver, with five victories. Off the track, Singapore's extraordinary food culture — from Michelin-starred dining rooms to the hawker centres — turns the whole weekend into an event in its own right.
