About Isle of Man TT 2027
Riders take on a closed-road circuit that runs through towns, over mountain terrain and along narrow country lanes, with stone walls and hedgerows inches from the racing line. Practice and race days depend heavily on weather, since mist on the mountain section can halt proceedings entirely. Fans gather at favourite vantage points for hours beforehand, and many follow the action from several spots around the course rather than staying in one place. The atmosphere is more paddock and pub than grandstand, with locals and travelling fans mixing freely between sessions.
Where to stay nearby
Douglas sits closest to the action and holds the largest choice of hotels, making it the easiest base for anyone without a car. Laxey offers a quieter alternative with a handful of hotels, useful if you want to be near the mountain section itself. Castletown is a little further out but well connected by road, and its smaller hotel count means booking early matters. Roads across the island close for racing and practice sessions, so plan journeys around the published closure times rather than normal traffic patterns.

History
First run in 1907 and staged on the Mountain Course since 1911, the Isle of Man TT (Tourist Trophy) is the oldest motorcycle race still held on its original roads. It was a round of the motorcycle world championship until 1976, when safety concerns cost it championship status — yet it endured as a stand-alone time-trial spectacle unlike anything else in sport.
It has claimed more than 260 lives, a toll that fuels endless debate, but riders keep coming for the singular challenge of the Mountain Course. Names like Joey Dunlop, John McGuinness and Michael Dunlop are TT royalty.
