History

Brisbane is a major host of the 2027 Men's Rugby World Cup, stepping up from the pool stage into the knockouts with pool matches, one of the new round-of-16 ties and a quarter-final — one of only two quarter-final venues alongside Sydney. Knockout rugby will draw large travelling crowds to the Queensland capital.

Sunny, subtropical and relaxed, Brisbane makes an easy base: the South Bank cultural and swimming precinct, the riverside bars and the CityCat ferries give fans plenty to do between games, with the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast beaches within reach. The tournament is the biggest in the sport's history — 24 teams, 52 matches, seven cities and a new round of 16 — running for six weeks from 1 October 2027.

With quarter-final tickets in demand, rooms will be tight for the tournament weeks; staying central or along the river keeps you close to the fan zones and the stadium transport.
