History

Sydney is the centrepiece of the 2027 Men's Rugby World Cup, the first edition to feature 24 teams and a new round-of-16 knockout stage across 52 matches. The city's Stadium Australia in the Olympic Park precinct — the arena built for the 2000 Olympics, holding around 83,500 — will stage both semi-finals, the bronze final and, on 13 November, the World Cup final itself, along with pool matches and a quarter-final earlier in the tournament.

Australia last hosted the Rugby World Cup in 2003, when England won a dramatic final in Sydney, and the host nation will be eager to go one better on home soil. For six weeks from 1 October the harbour city will fill with travelling supporters from two dozen nations. Staying in the city centre or around the harbour puts you close to the fan zones and the transport out to Olympic Park, with the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge and Bondi to enjoy between matches.
