Reckoned among the oldest continuously inhabited cities in western Europe, Cádiz occupies a slender spit reaching into the Atlantic, a compact old town of narrow streets, watchtowers, golden domes and sea-lashed ramparts.

On eclipse morning the Moon will cover the Sun for close to three minutes, the corona hanging over the rooftops as the sky darkens at mid-morning. This is one of the most accessible places in Europe to witness the event, part of a broader path that also crosses northern Morocco and North Africa on its way to Egypt, where totality is longest.

Cádiz province is well placed for the spectacle, with the beaches of the Costa de la Luz, the sherry town of Jerez and windswept Tarifa all nearby, so rooms across the region will be in heavy demand.
