About Tour de France 2027: Grand Départ

For the first time in its history, the Tour de France rolls out from Scotland — the 2027 Grand Départ launches from Edinburgh on Friday 2 July, sending the peloton south to Carlisle, then on through the Lake District to Liverpool and across to Cardiff before the race crosses the Channel to France. It's a once-in-a-generation chance to see the world's greatest bike race on British roads, and Edinburgh — all castle, crags and cobbled Old Town — makes a spectacular launch pad. The crowds will be enormous and rooms scarce for the opening weekend, so this is very much a book-early trip. Staying in the city centre puts you close to the start, the Royal Mile and Princes Street, with the whole of Edinburgh's festival-city energy on your doorstep for the send-off.
