World Superbike's Spanish round closes the European season at the Circuito de Jerez, the spiritual home of Spanish motorcycle racing. Opened in 1985 in the Andalusian countryside, the circuit was renamed in 2018 in honour of Ángel Nieto, the thirteen-time world champion who remains a national hero. In its early years it staged Formula 1's European and Spanish Grands Prix, including the notorious 1997 title decider in which Michael Schumacher and Jacques Villeneuve collided.

Today its sweeping, technical 4.4-kilometre lap is a rider favourite and a fixture of the MotoGP calendar, packed each spring with vast, noisy crowds. The setting is a joy: Jerez de la Frontera, fifteen minutes from the gates, is the home of sherry, with working bodegas open for tastings, flamenco in its bars and the celebrated Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art. October brings gentle warmth after the fierce Andalusian summer, with Cádiz and its beaches half an hour away and Seville just beyond.
