History
The Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours traces its origins to a modest club track opened in 1960, transformed at the end of the 1980s into a modern facility that hosted the French Formula 1 Grand Prix from 1991 to 2008. Set in the quiet farmland of the Nièvre, on the edge of Burgundy, its 4.4-kilometre lap is a technical test of stop-and-go corners, hard braking and the notorious Adelaide hairpin.
World Superbikes has raced here since 2003, and as one of the closing European rounds it has repeatedly played a decisive role in the title fight — often with autumn weather adding a lottery of rain and grip that rewards the bravest and best-judged riders. The paddock atmosphere is relaxed and distinctly French, with campsites ringing the circuit and long lunches the order of the day. Wins here have carried real weight, and the twice-on-Sunday race format guarantees a full weekend of close, hard-fought superbike action.
