I needed to stay in Lalitpur, and Hotel Himalaya Kathmandu has been my go-to place in Kathmandu, best by far. Staff is very friendly, breakfast is good, the atmosphere of the hotel is very nice, surrounded by greenery.
A true Himalayan Retreat
Pros: The hotel is located far from the congestion of the city, yet within easy reach of all the sites in Kathmandu. It has a great ambience, intimate and cosy, feels like home. The food was consistently good. And the staff, well cannot praise them enough! Amazing hospitality! Sending all my friends there! Cons: The bathing area was difficult for senior citizens. Climbing into a bathtub, unsafe for oldies.

Pros: There were parties happening across the room from us every night, with different groups almost daily. It often felt like people were booking the rooms just for gatherings, with food being delivered every few minutes by butlers carrying trays back and forth. The constant noise and lack of consideration from guests made it hard to believe this was meant to be a 5-star hotel experience. On top of that, the hotel hosted two or three wedding functions every other day, which added to the chaos. If you enjoy a lively, party-style atmosphere, this place might suit you.
