Staying in A Coruña
A Coruña is a working port city on Galicia's Atlantic coast, and it feels like one — this is a city with a real economy (fishing, shipping, the Inditex empire started here) rather than one built around tourism. The Tower of Hercules, a still-functioning Roman lighthouse and UNESCO site, is the obvious sight and worth the walk out to the headland, but the bigger draw is simply the city itself: glassed-in galería facades along the seafront, excellent and unpretentious seafood, and beaches like Riazor sitting right in the city centre, which is unusual for a place this size.
Be honest: weather here is properly Atlantic — expect rain and wind even in summer, and this isn't a sun-lounger destination. It's also less geared up for English-speaking visitors than Spain's Mediterranean resorts. With only 10 hotels in our catalog, choice is limited, so book early. Stay near Riazor or the old town so you can walk to the beach, the Tower, and dinner without needing a car.
