Alaior sits inland in the middle of Menorca, a working market town rather than a resort, best known for its cheese production (Mahón-Menorca cheese has deep roots here) and a handsome old quarter with a Baroque church and steep lanes climbing to the top of the hill. It's not a beach town: the closest coves, on Menorca's less-developed south coast, are a short drive away, and there's little in the way of nightlife or tourist infrastructure beyond a few cafes and shops.
Be honest: with only five hotels listed here, choice is limited, and most visitors will use it as a quiet base rather than a destination in itself. Its real advantage is location — close to Menorca Airport (MAH), central enough for day trips to both the north and south coasts, and cheaper and calmer than the coastal resorts. Stay here if you want easy airport access and don't mind driving to the beach; stay on the coast if the beach is the point.
