Staying in Alp
Alp is a small Pyrenean town in Catalonia's Cerdanya valley, best known as the gateway to La Molina, one of Spain's oldest ski resorts, just a few kilometres away. In winter it fills with skiers and snowboarders heading up the mountain; in summer the same wide valley floor turns into a base for hiking, cycling and paragliding, with the high plain around Cerdanya offering some of the clearest light and mountain air in the region.
Be honest: Alp itself is not a scenic destination in its own right — it's a functional, slightly workaday town of low buildings and ski-shop signage, with the real beauty found in the surrounding peaks and valley, not the streets. Facilities are geared toward practicality rather than charm, and outside ski season it can feel quiet to the point of sleepy. Stay here if you want easy access to La Molina's slopes without paying resort prices; book close to the main road through town for the shortest drive up the mountain.
