Baloteşti is a commune in Ilfov County just north of Bucharest, strung along the DN1 highway, and for most visitors its defining feature is that Henri Coandă International Airport, Romania's main gateway, sits right next door. That proximity explains why it has hotels at all. It is primarily a stopover for early departures, late arrivals and long layovers, not a destination in its own right. Be honest: there is little to see, the main road is busy with traffic heading to and from the capital and the Prahova Valley, and much of the area is new suburban housing and roadside commerce rather than anything with village charm.
In its favour, it avoids Bucharest's congestion on airport days, and Lake Snagov's forests and water lie a short drive to the north for anyone with spare hours. Băneasa airport and central Bucharest are reachable to the south when you need the city proper. Stay along the DN1 corridor closest to Henri Coandă, ideally somewhere with an airport shuttle, so a dawn flight doesn't mean a dawn traffic jam.
