Staying in Bridgend

Bridgend is a working Welsh market town, not a holiday destination, and it knows it. It sits on the River Ogmore roughly halfway between Cardiff and Swansea, with the M4 and the South Wales main line railway making it a practical base for both cities. Most visitors come for the McArthurGlen designer outlet by the motorway, for business, or as a cheaper springboard to the coast.

The surroundings are the real draw. The town centre has struggled for years, with empty shopfronts and little to keep you in the evenings, and the closure of the Ford engine plant hit the local economy hard. With only a handful of hotels, choice is limited. Stay near the M4 junctions if you are driving and touring, or near the station if you plan to day-trip to Cardiff and Swansea by train.
