Chaguanas is Trinidad's commercial engine, not a tourist town: a fast-growing borough in the island's central plain known for its markets, malls and traffic rather than any beach or colonial charm. It grew out of a sugarcane and Indian-indentured-labourer history, and that heritage still shows in the temples, mosques and roti shops that outnumber anything aimed at visitors. Be honest: there is little here to sightsee, and most people passing through are doing business or visiting family, not sunbathing.

What it does offer is location - central, well-connected by road, and a reasonable stop if you need to be near Piarco International Airport without paying Port of Spain prices, or if work brings you to the industrial estates nearby. With 45 hotels listed, there's decent choice for a working stay, but don't expect resort polish. Stay near the main roads into town for easy access to the highway and airport rather than trying to base yourself in the old market core, which is congested and not built for tourists.
