Staying in Cheadle
Cheadle is a small Staffordshire Moorlands market town whose most celebrated feature is St Giles', the Catholic church A. W. N. Pugin considered one of his finest works, its slender spire visible across the surrounding countryside and its painted interior well worth stepping inside for.
The town itself is modest and workaday, a high street of independent shops, pubs and takeaways serving a rural hinterland rather than tourists. Stay near the town centre for walkable pubs and food, with the easiest road access out to Alton Towers and the valley.
