Staying in Glenrothes
Glenrothes is one of Scotland's post-war new towns, built from 1948 to house workers for the Fife coalfield and later electronics firms, and it looks the part: roundabouts, business parks and housing estates rather than any historic core. There's little reason to linger in the town itself, and it's better understood as a functional base than a destination.
What it offers is central Fife location and easy road links, useful for visiting Falkland Palace, the Stuart royal hunting retreat with its real tennis court, or the Norman keep and medieval kitchens at Aberdour Castle on the coast. Given that, book whichever has easiest access to the A92, since you'll likely be passing through to Falkland or the coast rather than exploring Glenrothes on foot.
