Iserlohn sits in the Sauerland hills on the eastern edge of the Ruhr region, a mid-sized town better known for industry, specifically wire and metalworking, than for tourism. It's not a destination in the conventional sense: there's no old-town showpiece to rival nearby Soest or Dortmund, and most visitors are here for business, family, or as a base for walking and cycling in the surrounding hills and the Sauerland's Dechenhöhle cave system just outside town.
