Hotels in Portonovo

Portonovo sits on the Rías Baixas coast in Galicia, a small fishing-town-turned-summer-resort that swells far beyond its year-round population of around 2,200 once July and August hit. It's known chiefly for Praia de Silgar, a sheltered town beach right by the harbour, and for being the gateway to O Grove and the mussel rafts that dot the Ría de Pontevedra — seafood here, unsurprisingly, is excellent and cheap by Spanish coastal standards.

Be honest: outside peak summer weeks the place is quiet to the point of sleepy, with many bars and chiringuitos shuttered, and it lacks the historic pull of nearby Pontevedra or Combarro. Stay as close to Praia de Silgar as possible; it puts you within walking distance of the harbour, restaurants and the passenger ferries that cross to O Grove, which is really the point of basing yourself here at all.
