Hotels in Santiago del Estero

Santiago del Estero is Argentina's oldest city, founded in 1553, and the self-styled cradle of the country's folklore; this hot, low-lying northern province is where much of Argentine folk music and dance comes from. It is an unhurried provincial capital with a shaded central plaza, riverside parkland and very few foreign tourists.

The reason travelling sport lands here is the Estadio Único Madre de Ciudades, a striking modern stadium opened in 2021 that has quickly attracted international fixtures. Hotel stock is modest and mostly mid-range, so for a big match book as soon as fixtures are confirmed; the centre around Plaza Libertad is the practical place to be.
