Hotels in Teruel

Teruel is Spain's least-visited provincial capital, and it knows it — the local tourist board even ran a campaign built around the joke that "Teruel existe" (Teruel exists), because so many Spaniards forget it does. What it has is one of the best concentrations of Mudejar architecture in the country: the tower of San Pedro, the cathedral's coffered ceiling, and brick-and-tile facades that mix Christian and Islamic craftsmanship in a way you won't see elsewhere in Spain.

It's also the home of the Lovers of Teruel legend and some genuinely good, cheap Aragonese cooking, built around its famous cured ham. Its isolation means you'll need a car or a patient rail connection to get here at all. Stay in the old town near the Plaza del Torico, so the cathedral and towers are a short walk from your door.
