Staying in Toyonaka
Toyonaka is a large, orderly commuter city just north of Osaka, a place where people live rather than a place people visit. Its biggest draw for travellers is Osaka Itami Airport, which sits partly within the city limits and handles most of Japan's domestic flights. The city also contains Osaka University's Toyonaka campus, the leafy expanse of Hattori Ryokuchi Park and part of the Senri New Town planned suburb, and it holds a footnote in sporting history as the birthplace of Japan's national high-school baseball tournament.
There is little here in the way of sightseeing, nightlife or food scene, aircraft noise is a fact of life in parts of town, and with only a handful of hotels the choice is limited. What it does well is access, with quick rail links to Osaka Station and Shin-Osaka for shinkansen connections, and generally lower prices than central Osaka. Stay near Hotarugaike for the easiest monorail hop to Itami and a direct Hankyu line into Umeda, or near Senri-Chuo for the subway straight to Shin-Osaka.
Typical weather
November here averages 10°C, with around 96 mm of rain across the month.
December here averages 5°C, with around 109 mm of rain across the month.
