Hotels near Mount Kilimanjaro

Moshi is the obvious base for most climbers: it sits about 30 km from the mountain and offers the widest range of hotels, from Kibo Palace Hotel Moshi and Kilimanjaro Wonders Hotel to the Pink Flamingo Boutique Hotel and Kibo Homes Moshi. It's a working town with easy access to trailhead gates like Marangu and Machame, and its size means you can find a room to suit almost any budget or style while still being close enough for an early drive to the start of your route.

Arusha, roughly 80 km out, works better if you're combining Kilimanjaro with a safari, since it's the region's main hub for tour operators and international flights, and it has more polished options like the Gran Melia Arusha, Four Points by Sheraton Arusha, The Arusha Hotel, Kibo Palace Hotel Arusha and Sanna Boutique Hotel. The trade-off is the extra drive, which routes through Moshi to reach the trailheads.

Marangu, only about 10 km from its namesake gate, suits climbers tackling the Marangu Route who want minimal travel time on summit-eve — you can walk or take a short drive straight to the gate. Choices here are smaller and simpler: Babylon Lodge, Marangu Hotel and Acacia Tree Apartments.
