The 2000 Guineas — the first colts' Classic of the British Flat season and the opening leg of the English Triple Crown — is run at Newmarket's Rowley Mile on Saturday 1 May 2027. A straight mile that has launched the careers of racing's greatest milers since 1809, the Guineas is the spring highlight of the sport's historic Suffolk headquarters, where the gallops, the July Course and the National Horseracing Museum steep the whole town in racing.

Newmarket's rooms are limited and Guineas weekend is one of its busiest, so book early. Stay in the town itself to soak up the atmosphere, or nearby Cambridge for more choice and an easy drive out to the course.

The 2000 Guineas is one of the five British Classics and the first colts' Classic of the Flat season, run over the straight Rowley Mile at Newmarket, the ancient headquarters of British horse racing. First staged in 1809, it takes its name from the original prize of 2,000 guineas, and is open to three-year-old colts and fillies, though fillies more often contest the companion 1000 Guineas run over the same course.

Victory forms the opening leg of the English Triple Crown, which continues in the Derby at Epsom and concludes in the St Leger at Doncaster; the last horse to complete the sweep was Nijinsky in 1970. As a stiff, testing mile it has long been the classic proving ground for the sport's best milers, and its roll of honour features many of the great names of the turf. Newmarket itself, with its historic gallops, its two racecourses and the National Horseracing Museum, remains steeped in the sport all year round.
