About Minnesota Vikings

Minnesota joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1961, the name chosen to reflect the strong Scandinavian heritage of the Twin Cities. The Vikings reached four Super Bowls between the 1969 and 1976 seasons behind the fearsome 'Purple People Eaters' defensive line, losing all four, and the franchise remains one of just a handful of teams never to win the title outright.

Running back Adrian Peterson's record-setting rushing seasons in the 2000s and 2010s kept Minnesota competitive without ever ending that long drought. The Vikings play at U.S. Bank Stadium, a striking glass-and-steel downtown venue that opened in 2016, and the franchise's purple-and-gold colours remain among the most distinctive in the league.
