Staying in Almada
Almada is Lisbon's south-bank neighbour, the town you see across the Tagus beneath the Cristo Rei statue, which looks back at the capital from its hilltop beside the 25 de Abril Bridge. For many visitors it's a short ferry hop from Cais do Sodré to Cacilhas, where waterfront restaurants serve grilled fish and seafood with arguably the best skyline views of Lisbon you'll get anywhere. The wider municipality also reaches the long Atlantic beaches of Costa da Caparica, a favourite summer escape for Lisboetas.
Much of Almada is workaday commuter suburb rather than a destination in itself, bridge traffic can be miserable at rush hour, and with only a handful of hotels in our catalog, choice is limited. Getting to Lisbon's airport, Belém Tower or the main rail and bus terminals means crossing the river first. Stay near Cacilhas for the easiest ferry link into central Lisbon and the best of the riverside dining.
