Hotels in Coquelles

Coquelles is a small commune just west of Calais whose village life is overshadowed by the Channel Tunnel: the French terminal of Eurotunnel Le Shuttle sits on its edge, making it the first or last stop for countless drivers crossing between England and France. Next to the terminal is Cité Europe, a large shopping centre and hypermarket complex long popular with British day-trippers stocking up on wine, beer and groceries.

Be honest: this is a place of motorway junctions, car parks and chain hotels, not somewhere most people come to linger, and the old village centre offers little to fill a day. Its saving grace is location. The dramatic chalk headland of Cap Blanc-Nez and the wider Opal Coast are a short drive away, and Calais's beach and town centre are on the doorstep. Stay near the Cité Europe and tunnel terminal area if you are breaking a journey, since an early check-in for the Shuttle is then only minutes away.
