Staying in Duleek
Duleek is a small County Meath village with an outsized place in Irish church history. Its name comes from the Irish for "stone church," after the early stone church linked to St Cianán, and the ruins of the later priory, with its weathered high crosses and medieval tower, still stand at the village's heart.
Beyond that it's a quiet commuter settlement of a few thousand people, with a green, a handful of pubs and little in the way of sights to fill a full day. Its real appeal is location. You'll need a car, evenings are low-key, and Drogheda offers far more choice in restaurants and nightlife. Stay near the village centre around the abbey ruins for walkable pubs, and treat Duleek as a peaceful base for exploring Newgrange and the wider Boyne Valley.
