Hotels in Duque de Caxias

Duque de Caxias is an industrial city in Rio de Janeiro's Baixada Fluminense, dominated by Petrobras's REDUC refinery, which has processed oil since 1961 and produces most of Brazil's lubricants. Named after the Duke of Caxias, born here in 1803 and Brazil's most celebrated military commander, the city is otherwise a working, unglamorous satellite of Rio with chemical, metallurgy and plastics plants rather than beaches or historic centres.

It ranks among the largest municipal economies in Rio state, built almost entirely on industry rather than tourism. Be honest: there is little reason to sightsee here; most visitors are here for business tied to the refinery and port logistics. Stay near the BR-040 corridor for the fastest road link into central Rio de Janeiro.
