Fuente Alamo is a farming town in inland Murcia, its fields of melons, peppers, artichokes and courgettes fed by drip irrigation and exported across Europe. The municipality holds the region's first Technology Park, a research and business estate that sits oddly against the surrounding orchards, alongside long-standing pig and poultry rearing in the outlying districts.
Beyond a weekly market and a handful of local bars serving the marineras and zarangollo of the Murcia table, there is little for a visitor to do, and almost nothing aimed at tourists. Be honest: this is a working agricultural town, not a resort, with no beach and few sights of its own. Stay near the town centre for cheap, easy access to the Costa Calida beaches around Mazarron, twenty minutes south.
