Milford, Connecticut was bought from the Paugussett tribe's sachem in 1639, making it the state's sixth-oldest town, and its town green, the second-longest in New England, still anchors a walkable historic centre. Nineteenth-century Milford grew as a shipbuilding and oystering port, and that maritime layer still shows around the small harbour. Be honest: this is a quiet residential coastal town rather than a nightlife destination. Stay near the Green or Walnut Beach for the historic centre or the closest beach.
