Hotels in Münster

Munster is Germany's bicycle capital: locals cycle everywhere on a dense network of lanes, the train station has a vast bike-parking garage, and the ring road around the old town has been given over to walkers and cyclists. Its bigger claim to history is the Peace of Westphalia, negotiated here in 1648 and signed in the city hall's Friedenssaal, ending the Thirty Years' War.

The Prinzipalmarkt, the gabled merchant row at the heart of town, still looks medieval, though most of what stands today is a careful post-war reconstruction after the city was largely destroyed between 1943 and 1945. Be honest: this is not Munster in Ireland, and little of the old town fabric is original stone rather than rebuilt facade. Stay near the Prinzipalmarkt to be within walking and cycling distance of the cathedral quarter.
