Staying in Norco
Norco calls itself Horsetown USA, and it means it: this small Riverside County city keeps a semi-rural, equestrian character, with large residential lots zoned for animals, hitching rails outside businesses and an extensive network of horse trails threading through neighbourhoods and down to the Santa Ana River. The name comes from the North Corona Land Company, and its most storied landmark is the former Lake Norconian Club, a grand 1920s resort later taken over by the Navy and now largely inside a state prison complex, so it is not something you can casually tour.
Be honest: unless you are here for an equestrian event, a visit to family, Norco College or business with the nearby naval facility, there is not much to fill a weekend. Summers are hot, attractions are thin, and you will need a car. Ontario International Airport is a short drive away, which makes Norco a practical, lower-key base for the Inland Empire. Stay near the Interstate 15 corridor for the easiest freeway access and the nearest cluster of restaurants and services.
