Hotels in Paarl

Paarl is a working Winelands town under a huge granite dome of rock, about 45 minutes inland from Cape Town. It's less polished than Stellenbosch and Franschhoek next door — a long main street of Cape Dutch buildings, wine farms on the edges, and the Afrikaans Language Monument on the mountainside.

Cricket is now the draw for many visitors: Boland Park hosts the Paarl Royals in the SA20, a small ground with a big-occasion feel in January. Stay on or near Main Street for walkable restaurants, or at a wine-farm guesthouse just outside town; commuting from Cape Town is doable but the N1 at peak times will test you.
