Hotels in Pamplona

Pamplona is known globally for one week in July: the Running of the Bulls during the San Fermín festival, when Hemingway's old fixation turns the old town into a crush of white-and-red-clad crowds and genuinely dangerous bull runs through narrow streets. Outside that week it's a different, quieter place — a solid Navarrese regional capital with a well-preserved medieval core, an imposing citadel, and some of the best pintxos bars in northern Spain, without the Basque coast's tourist markup.

Be honest: San Fermín accommodation gets booked out and priced up months ahead, and the rest of the year Pamplona is a modest provincial city rather than a major destination, with limited nightlife once the festival crowds leave. It's also a genuine stop on the Camino de Santiago, giving it a steady trickle of pilgrim traffic. Stay near the old town walls, close to the Plaza del Castillo, so you're walking distance from the bull-run route, the bars and the cathedral.
