Hotels in Prestwick

Prestwick is a small Ayrshire seaside town of around 15,000 people with two outsized claims to fame: Prestwick Golf Club hosted the very first Open Championship in 1860, and Glasgow Prestwick Airport is where Elvis Presley touched down in 1960, his only known moment on British soil. The town itself is low-key and residential, with a long seafront esplanade and sandy beach looking across the Firth of Clyde to the hills of Arran, which are spectacular on a clear evening.

There isn't much to do here after dark, the main street is more practical than charming, and the airport serves mostly budget flights rather than Glasgow's full schedule. That said, it makes a sensible, cheaper base for golfers playing the Ayrshire links and for day trips south to the clifftop grandeur of Culzean Castle, with livelier Ayr just next door. Stay near the seafront for sea views and an easy walk to the golf, or by the airport station if you have an early flight.
