Sankt Gallenkirch sits in the Montafon valley in Vorarlberg, a low-key alternative to the bigger names in Tirol and the Arlberg. Its main draw is the Silvretta Montafon ski area, linked by cable car up to Valisera and Novatschela, offering solid intermediate terrain and enough vertical to keep serious skiers busy for a few days.
In summer it works as a base for hiking and mountain biking in the same lift-served terrain, though the village itself is modest, more functional than picturesque, and doesn't have the après-ski buzz or restaurant scene of higher-profile Austrian resorts. Outside ski season it's quiet to the point of sleepy, and non-skiers may find little to hold their attention beyond walking trails. Stay close to the Silvretta Montafon lift base if skiing is the priority, since it cuts out transfer time and puts you straight onto the slopes each morning.
