Hotels in Unna

Unna is a modest Hellweg town on the eastern edge of the Ruhr, once a member of the Hanseatic League and still centred on a compact old town of half-timbered houses around the Marktplatz. Its one genuine draw is the Zentrum für Internationale Lichtkunst, a museum devoted entirely to light art and installed in the vaulted cellars of the former Linden brewery, which is unusual enough to justify a detour. Beyond that, Unna is mostly a practical base rather than a destination.

Its position on the motorway network around Dortmund has made it a logistics and business hub, so many visitors are here for work, trade fairs in Dortmund or an early flight. Dortmund Airport is just next door, which makes it a sensible overnight stop. Evenings are quiet and choice is limited, with only a handful of hotels in town. Stay in or near the old town, which keeps you walking distance from the light art museum, the station and the town's best restaurants.
