Hotels in Fremont Street, Las Vegas

Fremont Street downtown is Las Vegas before the Strip existed — the original neon casino district, now covered by the Fremont Street Experience canopy light show. It is cheaper, considerably smaller, stranger and more approachable than the Strip — the Golden Nugget is genuinely excellent; the budget casinos around it are brilliantly unhinged. Container Park (boutique shopping in shipping containers) and the nascent Arts District are a short walk. For a Las Vegas experience at better value and with more genuine character than the corporate resort mega-casinos, Fremont is the easy recommendation — especially when the canopy light show goes on after dark and the crowd is entirely local.
