Hotels in Testaccio, Rome
Testaccio is Rome's foodie heart — home of the celebrated covered market, classic offal-driven Roman cooking, and a nightlife built into the slopes of an ancient hill of broken amphorae. Off the tourist trail and proudly working-class, it offers some of the city's most authentic trattorias and a real neighbourhood rhythm. It suits travellers who come to eat and want to experience everyday Rome rather than the monument circuit, though the centre and Trastevere are an easy walk or tram ride away. Come hungry; this is where Romans send you for the real thing.
