Gangnam is Seoul south of the Han River — the affluent, polished district that PSY made globally infamous, now better known as the address of COEX Mall (one of the world's largest underground shopping centres), the luxury hotels of Teheran-ro and some of the city's finest restaurants. K-pop entertainment companies cluster here; the Bongeunsa temple provides unexpected Buddhist calm between the glass towers. Seoul Metro Line 2 runs through the heart of it. It suits business travellers, luxury shoppers and K-pop pilgrims who want efficiency, upscale infrastructure and a very Korean vision of modern prosperity. Less quirky than Hongdae, but an important Seoul chapter.
