Hotels near Rome–Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (FCO)

Fiumicino sits well outside Rome proper, so the choice here is really binary: stay by the airport for convenience, or stay in the city and treat the transfer as part of the trip.

The trade-off is that this area is purely functional — retail parks, car parks and airport infrastructure rather than anywhere you'd choose to spend an evening. It's the right call only when your schedule genuinely demands it; otherwise the extra kilometres into central Rome buy you a far more useful base, with restaurants, sights and nightlife on your doorstep instead of runway views. The Leonardo Express train and regular buses connect Fiumicino to central Rome quickly enough that staying in the city and allowing proper time for the transfer is usually the smarter move.

If you do stay near the airport, don't assume every hotel within the 5 km radius is equally practical — the gap between the 1.1 km option and something further out inside that 3 km band can matter when you're watching the clock, so check the actual transfer method rather than just the distance on the map.
