Hotels near San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

SFO sits well south of San Francisco proper, in a stretch of Millbrae and Burlingame dominated by business hotels, rental car depots and the BART line, so your choice really comes down to convenience versus atmosphere rather than one "best" area. If you've got an early flight or a red-eye arrival, staying close is simply about minimising hassle: the Grand Hyatt at SFO, 1.1 miles out, is the nearest option and works well as a short taxi or bus ride rather than anything you'd walk.

The trade-off is that this airport belt has little going for it beyond function — it's fine for a one-night stopover but not somewhere you'd want to linger. If your flight times give you any breathing room, basing yourself in San Francisco itself is worth the extra travel time, since BART connects the airport directly to downtown and you get the city's neighbourhoods, food and views in exchange for a longer journey each way.

Either way, San Francisco's layout means the "airport hotel" and "city hotel" categories serve genuinely different trips rather than being interchangeable.
